Cllr Eric Neal said if the Aldershot Urban Extension goes ahead there may be some scope to open up Hollybush Lane track to HGVs. This route would be used by HGV’s accessing the AUE development site from the A331 and also provide an alternative route for those vehicles currently accessing the A331 via North Lane. This is actively being pursued, but timescales are not clear at this moment therefore I am trying to speed things along. My own HCC HAT’s committee (Hampshire Action Team for Hart & Rushmoor) last year resurrected the idea of the unused Hollybush track, Hampshire Highway Engineers have told us the cost to bring it back into use would be up to £3 million The only source of funding for this type of project is from Central Government, therefore I have approached Gerald our MP to ask the Transport Minister to look at this issue. In the hope that funds from the Government can be allocated to bring this Lane back into use and thereby reduce the amount of HGV’s using North Lane. |

In the current financial climate people might consider trying to obtain funding for this project a waste of time. I was successful in persuading Hampshire County Council to provide funding of approx £195,000. for the improvements and landscaping currently taking place to the mini shopping area in North Town. So I cannot see why the Government cannot provide funding for this, my motto has always been ‘if you do not asked you do not get’.
Stagecoach - Goldline Route Launch
I attended the launch of the Stagecoach Goldline Route marking the introduction of a brand new fleet of 14 high quality buses for the route. This represents an investment of £1.7 million by Stagecoach and passengers will benefit from high quality specification buses that include hand-stitched leather seats and buses with the latest low-emission engines. The launch follows the excellent work done as part of the Quality Bus Partnership by both Hampshire and Surrey County Councils since 2001. Significant measures have been implemented on the highway to enable buses to flow smoothly along what is a very congested route. Hampshire County Council has created an environment where buses can operate reliably and punctually and accessibility improvements have made it much easier for people with limited mobility to use buses. As a result, passenger numbers have increased considerably over the years encouraging Stagecoach to commit to this level of investment. |

In my role as the Chairman of the Hampshire Action Team for Hart and Rushmoor, I would like to extend thanks to both Hampshire and Surrey County Councils, on behalf of residents in this area, for continuing to provide financial support for route 1 of £141,000 (per annum) to maintain the evening and Sunday service which maintains a comprehensive time table. The Route 1 service in the Blackwater Valley - between Aldershot, Farnborough and Camberley - is upgraded to Goldline status from 8 February 2009. Stagecouache's Hants & Surrey route 1 runs every 10 minutes Monday to Saturday daytime and every 30 minutes on evenings and Sundays. |

Pot Holes | |||
The extreme conditions at the beginning of February resulted in many more potholes appearing on our roads.
The way the authorities dealt with the impact of last month’s severe weather is still under the spotlight, but I would like to congratulate Hampshire County Council staff and contractors on their impressive efforts to keep major roads clear during a very difficult few days. Although the weather has now improved, the extreme conditions at the beginning of February resulted in many more potholes appearing on our roads. This is despite the County Council spending an extra £1 million last year on a Pothole Busters ‘blitz’ across Hampshire - money on top of an annual road maintenance budget of £56 million. This extra funding meant that over 30,000 potholes and roadside defects were fixed during the autumn and winter.
Tackling potholes is once again the focus for highways maintenance. The excellent news is that more Pothole Buster gangs will now be working on Hampshire’s roads as part of an ongoing programme of repairs, thanks to the County Council agreeing to target a further £1 million at least on damage caused by snow and ‘freeze thaw’ effect. Unfortunately, February's exceptionally cold weather has added to the pothole problems which would otherwise have been worse but for some of the previous excellent work on potholes and we now need to move quickly to repair our roads. The County Council regularly inspects our roads, and will respond to all reports of potholes, fixing the worst ones first. Looking after Hampshire’s roads is a significant part of the County Council’s work, and improvements to road safety are a key priority. But you can play your part by reporting faults through the County Council’s contact centre Hantsdirect on 0845 603 5633, via the website http://www3.hants.gov.uk/roads/online-facilities or through their parish council These reports are then followed up with special inspections. |
